Limb - ST 12"

When I first heard Limb, they had a short 3-track demo CD with UK's Witch Hunter records. The deep, heavy tracks had an almost blues tinge to them that just sounded great. Only two years later and they have put out their very own LP, thanks to New Heavy Sounds. In the middle of these two they had released another 7", also on NHS. This was also good, so didn't really hesitate to pick this up. It's not a bad album by any means, but something has been lost that they had in the original demo. The production is a lot more crisp this time around, which has actually taken away some of the appeal of the record. One of things I loved about the original demo was the thick sound the band was able to produce, and sadly this has been almost completely removed with the recording. 

The LP comes in a nice gatefold cover with some incredibly detailed artwork on the front that certainly does look impressive. I am a fan of the gatefold jackets, but in this case I'm not exactly sure why it was necessary. Inside is a pretty standard photo of the band, not really too exciting.

The LP itself really stands out though. It is a cool electric green/black swirl. Overall 300 copies of this were produced, and from memory this was the only colour variation at the time. Inside the jacket is an insert with the cover artwork.

Overall, not bad but not my favourite release from the band. Listen to the below tracks, first is from the demo and the second from the new LP, let me know which you prefer.

Limb - Gift Of The Sun 7"

Limb are back! After discovering these guys on Witch Hunter Records I've been craving more from the band, and luckily I didn't have to wait long at all. Thanks to New Heavy Sounds, Limb have released a brand spanking new 7" EP entitled "Gift Of The Sun". This contains three (well, technically four) tracks of Limb's Rock 'n' Roll infused take on heavy music, one of which is a great new version of "Dead Voice" from their S/T CD.
I say there are technically four tracks on this release, because the record comes along with a digital download containing a bonus track, "Into the Slave Nebula". Why this isn't on the record I don't know. Maybe there wasn't enough space to fit all four tracks on? Or maybe one little vinyl disc cannot hold the sheer awesomeness of four whole Limb tracks? I'll probably never know...

The outer sleeve has a sticker on the front, which gives the sleeve a bit of extra uniqueness. This time around there is no sleeve for the record, but instead has been cleverly combined into a large fold-out poster of the artwork. 

The inner sleeve also has some character in this release. Instead of the usual white (or occasionally black) we see all the time, there is a bright orange New Heavy Sounds themed sleeve. Again, adding a bit of personality to the regular parts of a record package is a really great wee touch.

The colour of the sleeve was quite possibly chosen to match the colour of the record, a vibrant orange. This is the only version that I know of, and is limited to 250 copies. The centre labels contain the band logo on one side, and a piece from the poster artwork on the back.

Limb - Demo CD

I was first introduced to Limb via a great review from Gavin at Tight To The Nail. He raved about the demo and was kind enough to embed the songs at the bottom. From what he said I was pretty keen to hear this so I played it as soon as I could. It was really one of those rare times when you hear something and you instantly love it.

I'm not very good at the the whole genre business, but I guess Limb would best be described as stoner metal maybe? Whatever you want to call it, it is three tracks of pure London greatness that pretty much has everything. Catchy yet heavy riffs, great bass work and ridiculously powerful vocals all bringing to mind the 70s. What more could you ask for really? I'll embed it below so you can see for yourself.

This was originally recorded and released in January of this year, but has since been picked up and re-released by Witch Hunter Records. This is limited to 100 CDs.

The packaging for this is relatively basic, but what can you really do with a CD? I do like the skull artwork and heptagram pattern on the CD though.

Although inside the sleeve was some extra goodies. First is a sheet giving a little bit of detail about the tracks. There are also three great Limb stickers that came along. I'm pretty sure the first few copies came with a Limb patch as well, but sadly by the time I got round to buying they had already sold out.

One of the greatest aspects of small independent record labels are the personal touches you get when buying from them. Best of which is when they actually thank you for purchasing one of their items. If you do happen to read this, Chris I am very happy to give my support. I suppose the CD couldn't really have traveled much further could it?

Just as I was about to recycle the cardboard inside the postal package I noticed one more small 'extra'. Somehow I don't think this quite applies to what I bought....
