About 5 years ago, an interesting album was released by the likes of Dwid Hellion, T, Matt Shack and Nick Fiction. Although these were all big names in the world of metallic hardcore, what they released was far from what would be expected from such a group. The album contained 12 tracks of dark, acoustic "apocalyptic folk" that was just done right FANtastic. After a couple of EP releases, the group is "back" with their second LP.<br />When I say back, it is really by name only. The line up has had a bit of a change over the years, with AVVs Nathan Opposition joining in on vocals on their latest EP. This album also sees Austin Rathmell, from The Way to Light, joining Opposition as vocals. Aside from these two, the only other member, and only original member left, is Nick Fiction. This is really quite a different band from the one back in 2009, and it definitely shows.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

There are still tracks that are reminiscent of the first line up, such as Incandescent Dreams, a highlight for me. The guitar work sounds reminds me of the previous album's title track, and the haunted whispered vocals are just perfect. The big difference lies on the tracks where Nathan Opposition takes the lead on the vocals, these are generally a lot softer than I'd come to expect from the group. In a way they almost don't fit with what RNF originally tried to achieve back in 2009.<br />

Currently this has only been released on CD, courtesy of Neuropa records. Hopefully this will see a vinyl release sometime in the future, it does deserve it.<br />The CD packaging doesn't have an awful lot mention, and I'm slightly disappointed that no original artwork had been developed for this release. Aside from the new twisted portraits of Oppostion and Rathmell, all the artwork has come straight from the first release.<br />

That may have seemed a slightly negative review, but if anything it is just because the bar had been set so high. It is still a great second album, and I'd love to hear more from the group in the coming years.LiGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03568734488777465073noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3517631279265241005.post-10486933324368937062014-10-20T20:14:00.002+13:002014-10-20T20:14:45.439+13:00Vocal TestWith every band comes that classic track that all the fans know off by heart, and always gets played at shows. While in many aspects Integrity is utterly unlike many other bands, they do share this commonality. Of course this is without a doubt Vocal Test - the opening track to Humanity is the Devil.<br />As if this track wasn't killer enough, the band have just released the master audio files for free. This means it is entirely open to be remixed and recut however you see fit, so I thought I've had a go at re imagining the track.<br />

Here I am with another VVegas record, albeit it only partially counts as a new record really. I have previously written about this particular 7" twice already know, but here I am back again with a third colour variant.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-88NcznL5mJ23DCwfXq-n07AmJLO5k6JTaPHzXu4gKmXOtrgvvdM1vBwLA7GnR-mC810vIJ7TQxEDyMjAN6_L7kLODXsPv6pADpkZMOpLO5UkyhUI1Ma2nKoFdgafEHx8LjniiT_67dI/s1600/DSC02430+(Copy).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-88NcznL5mJ23DCwfXq-n07AmJLO5k6JTaPHzXu4gKmXOtrgvvdM1vBwLA7GnR-mC810vIJ7TQxEDyMjAN6_L7kLODXsPv6pADpkZMOpLO5UkyhUI1Ma2nKoFdgafEHx8LjniiT_67dI/s1600/DSC02430+(Copy).JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
This particular variant is a little more special as it also features an alternate cover. The other two version were a grey/black swirl and clear red with some fantastic artwork designed by Dwid Hellion. This time around I've myself the pre-order version on clear yellow with (if I must be honest) somewhat less appealing artwork.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4jeOM5B1hCdVoqDQzmQ4HYN02b8FXaNS2fd6UPLuPp5oD4efz7VEaHsu9N9SomS_pOJWvBr2cHuzTggkqYiLC4VaPe4Oy-K9VTI2eBVOpadwwCTbNvi5k5eTLbZvGj-y2Nm2izKsackc/s1600/DSC02431+(Copy).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4jeOM5B1hCdVoqDQzmQ4HYN02b8FXaNS2fd6UPLuPp5oD4efz7VEaHsu9N9SomS_pOJWvBr2cHuzTggkqYiLC4VaPe4Oy-K9VTI2eBVOpadwwCTbNvi5k5eTLbZvGj-y2Nm2izKsackc/s1600/DSC02431+(Copy).JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
As far as I can tell 100 copies of this variant were pressed, although others I have seen were numbered on the cover and centre label.....<br />
In terms of regular variants (not test-presses), that is all the colour variants this wee 7" came in. I can't see me ever really wanting to get this kind of set for a huge number of records, but for certain special ones it can be quite fun trying to hunt down all the versions. They do look pretty cool next to each other too.<br />

As a bit of a follow up form last week, listen to how VVegas has progressed from their most recent 7" to this -<br />

Things had been relatively quite on the VVegas front for a wee while. Since their 2012 split release with Abraxis, there had been little rumours of new material being released but nothing seemed to really happen. Of course that changed earlier this year they released the RSD split with Integrity, and now they are back again with Sagevisule. This actually marks VVegas' first solo 7" release since the band's inception, as all other 7"s have been part of splits or compilations.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

From what I was able to gather, they had a bit of trouble actually getting this record released. It was originally planned to be released by some small label months ago, but nothing seemed to eventuate. I then saw they were looking out for a label to release it, which finally got picked up by <a href="http://lastanthemrecords.storenvy.com/collections/63924-all-products/products/7870209-vvegas-sagevisule-7">Last Anthem</a> records a wee while ago. I don't know too much about this label, but they've done a fine job with this release.<br />

Three versions were pressed all together; a lavender and red split, a pink and yellow, and a lavender and black. Mine is obviously the last of those three, with an interesting effect in the middle of the colours. 300 copies were pressed in total, which I'm assuming this means that mine is /100. As far as I'm aware, VVegas still have copies of the band version for sale (pink and yellow), which does look pretty cool.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The 7" contains four brand new tracks. Between listening to this and "Never", it is clear to see what a shift in style the band has made. This is especially evident with "All my Dreams are Lies", which is very much in vain of the tracks they have released over the last few years. The guitars are incredibly harsh, and the vocals sound distorted in a way that make them seem they are coming from a source very far away. For me, the highlight is "You Are Not Who You Think You Are". This is a considerably slower track than the last one, but is still incredibly heavy and is able to send shivers down my spine. The last track, "Irrealis" is not too dissimilar from a RNF track, with whispered vocals and (at least at first) a haunted acoustic guitar.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif3j0dm-OApqw6RkBGA6DVzANSbi66PXeCFVBUEU51QVTpz6KV5EE443WiFlHScPocrupg7ajL_3pGoox8gaolosxdtlEMViDTnNWSSzmhRnn_vpIaf907zcLk8bPes1g47a_QXFpbIxs/s1600/DSC02427+(Copy).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif3j0dm-OApqw6RkBGA6DVzANSbi66PXeCFVBUEU51QVTpz6KV5EE443WiFlHScPocrupg7ajL_3pGoox8gaolosxdtlEMViDTnNWSSzmhRnn_vpIaf907zcLk8bPes1g47a_QXFpbIxs/s1600/DSC02427+(Copy).JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
The reason I opted for the lavender and black version, was because it was part of a special package. Along with the standard record, Last Anthem also threw in a patch, a VVegas sticker and a new VVegas T-Shirt that has the same design as the record.<br />

To me it is really quite a change in direction for the band. The split with Blind to Faith back in 2010 saw Gehenna start down a path of psychoactive inspired tracks that have progressively gotten heavier and slower over the years. The split with Integrity 2 years ago brought us Amphetamine Psychosis which literally took us through a meth trip, and The Truth (released as part of a mixtape) was the band's most so slow that it almost hurt. An incredibly limited lathe cut 7" was released last year that did hint at a change from this direction. But this new 7" has cemented that change with what is quite possibly the fastest and thrashiest set of recordings ever released by Gehenna.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHKO8N8AS755A8eCal0dH_wuvfTD90eL3ig1gyLImUz-cu-aZqKOHOfMseDuEnAP3TYoEJN7yudAtz4kBSyZABtP6_ipFIRKccz6QKPS2opfG-o_TqUaiSnBI4r4RPB3x74FvZfVGt5hI/s1600/DSC02419+(Copy).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHKO8N8AS755A8eCal0dH_wuvfTD90eL3ig1gyLImUz-cu-aZqKOHOfMseDuEnAP3TYoEJN7yudAtz4kBSyZABtP6_ipFIRKccz6QKPS2opfG-o_TqUaiSnBI4r4RPB3x74FvZfVGt5hI/s1600/DSC02419+(Copy).JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
Amphetamine Psychosis starts out the record, but sounds entirely different from the Integ split. The vocals sound in less psychological torment, but severely more vicious instead. The distinctive riff from the end of that track is again featured, but only lasts ~15 seconds, rather than 2 minutes. It is then straight into "Into the Grave". This track is wickedly fast and features the same vicious vocal set, accompanied by a quick guitar solo in the middle.<br />After about a second break, we are launched back into "Serve the Cult". This starts with the most blistering guitar solo and doesn't stop for a single breath the entire time.<br />The aforementioned lathe cut then lends a track, which has now been re-branded as Savage II. Here the blasting drums don't stop the assault on your ear drums, and the vocals have been distorted in a way that perfectly encapsulates the track title.<br />
Things then finish off with "Funeral Embrace", which once again doesn't hold back in the slightest either.<br />
The whole thing gets you so full of energy that the only thing to do is to put it on again (and again, and again).<br />

After Rot in Hell's Ruined Empire, this is the second release of the revived Dark Empire label, now run by Dwid's son. Several versions of this were released; a clear and black striped, a yellow, a green and a black. All of the fancy coloured versions were out of 100 copies, and the black/clear combo came with an additional poster. Mine is just the standard black version, which came from the HT store rather than Dark Empire.<br />

The packaging is just as wicked as the tracks on the vinyl. Right at the top is the cover artwork, which is looks incredibly raw and vicious. When that is opened up we have the lyrics to all the songs, definitely a good read. Quite surprisingly for a Gehenna record, the vinyl itself has centre labels and some matrix etchings. Usually we are just dealt a very basic record with no trimmings.<br />

I recently discovered a new local(ish) record store, and decided to have a look around when I was in the area. They stocked quite a variety of genres, but what grabbed my attention was the Burzum section. Now, I am by far the biggest and most dedicated Burzum fan out there, but I had heard bits of this album and decided to give it a go. I must say I am glad that I did, and although it may not be the most popular Burzum record out there, I definitely like it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

For those not in the know, Burzum is the one-man brain child of Norwegian Varg Virkenes. There is plenty of infamy surrounding Burzum and a quick search will show what I mean, although I am not here to discuss such matters.<br />
This album marks the 9th major release from the band since it's first recording back in 1992. I haven't heard a lot of earlier stuff, but from the snippets I have heard, this seems quite a change in direction. The lyrics are all taken from a classic Norse poem, <span style="background-color: white; color: #252525; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.399999618530273px;"> </span><span style="background-color: white; color: #252525; line-height: 22.399999618530273px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Völuspá, and the entire album has an incredible sense of atmosphere. It has been criticised for being a bit slow at times, and I can see what they mean. Although saying that, when you are in the right frame of mind, the minimalist sounds of "Gulladr" are just what you need.</span></span><br />

This release was handled by several different labels across the globe; Byelobog Productions in Norway, Banc in Black in the UK as well as Candelight Records in the US. As such there are a few different versions out there; a grey, a bronze and a test press with with labels. I'd like to think the bronze matches the trimmings on the cover and colour of the font which would look nothing short of amazing. My version is the more standard black vinyl, which still looks quite impressive when both LPs are freed from their black dust jackets.<br />

Unreal City have had quite a sporadic release history. Back in 2008 they released an initial album, Ephemeral Subsistence, which was actually pretty good. The following year they released a demo, also entitled "Masks", and have also appeared on a compilation 7" alongside Gehenna, Integrity and VVegas. A song or two has also appeared on label compilations from time to time, but they have hardly been the most prolific band out there. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Very recently, they have released this new 7" EP, courtesy of Holy Terror records (no doubt helped by +Orr's Integrity involvement) and there are rumours out there that new recordings are also in the works. The 2009 demo cassette was also named Masks, and contained the tracks on this EP (plus a little bit more), but from what I can see these are new recordings for this release.</div>

Two versions of this record were produced, the regular black and what has been described as "Human Flesh". I was interested by the latter to see just what would appear on my doorstep. It is really more of a light creamy colour, I think perhaps bone would have been a more accurate description of the true colour. There is also a slight hint of green marbled through, which is clearly just run-off during production.<br />

About two years ago, A389 did a <a href="http://totaltotality.blogspot.com/2012/01/gehenna-land-of-sodom-ii-7.html">re-release</a> of this record that came with a CD copy of "Upon the Gravehill". Back in 2008, a small label called Hit the Deck records released the initial version, and from what I've been able to see online, it looks like very few copies of this record every made it into the hands of those who purchased it. I tried looking for the label online, and was only to come across <a href="http://hitthadeckrecords.com/contact.html">this</a> (somehow I don't think that is the one....).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have no idea what happened there, but I have been trying to track down a copy for a while. Every time I checked the net there seemed to be copies available, but for reasonably high prices. With the alleged rarity of the copies available, I felt this was probably going to be a record out of my collection for some time. Fortunately, a couple of weeks ago I felt like having another look and a member on Discogs happened to be selling a copy for a much more reasonable price. From time to time a price that is too good to be true is not a good sign, but this turned up in near mint condition!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The cover artwork on this is the same red tinted wasteland as seen on the re-release, although this original has the band logo and "Land of Sodom" printed on the front.<br />
As with other gehenna records, the physical vinyl is incredibly plain. There is no centre label and no etchings besides the standard ones issues by the pressing plant. I do like this about gehenna records, it is just their like music; straight up and without frills.<br />

The same four tracks are here as were on the reprint, although they do sound quite different. A389 labelled the reissue as a "few improvements" to the recordings, but I personally think the vocals have ended up sounding quite different. Although perhaps it is not yet safe to mention gehenna and A389 in the same sentence....<br />

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about a new tape from a band named Unit Togo. In the post I mentioned the band contained members from several places, with one of those being Martyr's Tongue. For whatever reason, Martyr's Tongue was a band that I had heard of for a while, but just never really sat down and actually listened to. In more ways than one, I feel I have been missing out, because now that I have actually listened to them, they are fantastic.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo0Yi0DzaAZECKe2gCjdLXdjlnCnV77byClb87qW1jrEI5e2kahlfJ8C0_u_qsxYSS5bjBGcPZYorztujxkfhvic-O6YeiziiRBqoexF5dOdr4TrPUh9oHVCt9XzdJKBEco0Mg8UZ4A3E/s1600/DSC02409+(Copy).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo0Yi0DzaAZECKe2gCjdLXdjlnCnV77byClb87qW1jrEI5e2kahlfJ8C0_u_qsxYSS5bjBGcPZYorztujxkfhvic-O6YeiziiRBqoexF5dOdr4TrPUh9oHVCt9XzdJKBEco0Mg8UZ4A3E/s1600/DSC02409+(Copy).JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
This tape comprises the band's first EP, the tracks from a 3-way split, and a cover of Nirvana's "Tourettes". This is the first time the "Cease to Exist EP" has made its way onto a physical format, and as I mentioned before I can't believe I was foolish enough to not listen to these guys sooner. With what can only be described as Puerto Rican Holy Terror, the band have produced 11 tracks of the some of the heaviest, fastest and most crushing tracks in my collection so far. There are come quite clear influences in there, but it never sounds like a complete emulation of records gone by, but rather quite a fresh entry into to the world of metallic hardcore.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj02lIpeNCqcuWS92RCI5TAfrV4lsL8eCGcB6KTRNpj4TcWS70nSbpF563IZdG2HeY1zJGI2pa_gFjMDCfICMby8oXvtTVTiIVWohAAqUAGArev0iKra-1DWMQXPX7nhTfnoMzpryebljg/s1600/DSC02410+(Copy).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj02lIpeNCqcuWS92RCI5TAfrV4lsL8eCGcB6KTRNpj4TcWS70nSbpF563IZdG2HeY1zJGI2pa_gFjMDCfICMby8oXvtTVTiIVWohAAqUAGArev0iKra-1DWMQXPX7nhTfnoMzpryebljg/s1600/DSC02410+(Copy).JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Head2Wall records are behind this great release, who have released two versions of the tape. 70 were produced on a clear tape, and 30 on the green (which was exclusive to H2W). At the time of my purchase, green were still available, but I bet they did not last that long.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKhsKFndiEh4oAlfV4JJV30zAg8fXkeYIa7GKF2ILbqCRdkYSTVpWW7H9C-dPI78s-R_ZUHn-CUmL6hV4rZBUa8VFDF1S4nHhhBTeqYdvsFkXxTsrgCeKrQ7jIfhDteyhbI0bc88Ecm2Y/s1600/DSC02411+(Copy).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKhsKFndiEh4oAlfV4JJV30zAg8fXkeYIa7GKF2ILbqCRdkYSTVpWW7H9C-dPI78s-R_ZUHn-CUmL6hV4rZBUa8VFDF1S4nHhhBTeqYdvsFkXxTsrgCeKrQ7jIfhDteyhbI0bc88Ecm2Y/s1600/DSC02411+(Copy).JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
It is often difficult to go that extra mile with tape packaging, but this does contain an insert with the lyrics on the back, and two free badges. The left badge is clearly the band's logo, with the one on the right being a Jason mashup of the classic H2W logo.<br />

The final piece in what has been one of my most exciting packages to receive this year was Integrity's Den of Iniquity. Along with Piss Off You Bloody Wankers and Ruined Empire, this formed a new OCR Holy Terror Package. As one of the first 100 people to place an order for this, I was lucky enough to receive some unexpected bonuses with my records. </div>

The secret material came inside a large yellow envelope, hand stamped and numbered. Mine was number 4/100, so close to #1! Inside the envelope (which I do appreciate as it was easy to open and re-close, without some sort of seal that rips the envelope when you try to open it) was a thank you note from Clint and OCR, always appreciated. On the back of this, and the other sheets were various Integrity flyers from over the years, a great bonus to get.<br />

But onto the record, a double LP re-release of an album containing many of Integrity's early and rare recordings. A lot is covered here, from the early recordings such as Harder they Fall, through to tracks around the Seasons era, and even a few live recordings. A lot of these I have in one form or another, but there were a few gems I hadn't heard before, especially the live versions of 18, and a different recording of Diehard to what was on Palm Sunday.<br />

The whole package is really outstanding, with a lot of effort put into the detail throughout. The cover artwork is incredibly intricate, and of course has the usual invisible ink trimmings. The inside has some rather violent artwork on the left hand side, and an early picture of the band on the right. Inside the sleeve is an insert written by A2, giving information and history behind each of the tracks on the compilation.<br />

There is then of course the vinyl, which are things of beauty. The come inside white sleeves, that have been stamped with the classic Integrity logos. On the first we also have a hand written number, mine being 163/201. Like Ruined Empire, this was originally released for RSD, with this particular version being limited to 201 copies. This version is on nice white vinyl, which is incredibly clean. Not a trace of other colours have made their way into the mix, and they look fantastic.<br />

Alongside the previously mentioned Rot in Hell 12', Organized Crime Records have also released a new Integrity 7" flexi, "Piss Off You Bloody Wankers", limited to a mere 250 copies. An original recording from 1992, it's quite a different Integrity, even for the time. It is really more punk oriented than the rest of their recordings, with their trademark blend of metallic hardcore hardly noticeable at all.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGvG0oLM02WP_nhuKG3N879gSRYcHQpHEylk6kLjvI0SSb-43Q2BY4J1NUr0DUo3LsvrYe2Ty6dphm6xLijypYlMuVxkp2YSacecAOIoWaPdt8Ow-e9F3sb58jLJADx4roSBrnEviIqG8/s1600/DSC02372+(Copy).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGvG0oLM02WP_nhuKG3N879gSRYcHQpHEylk6kLjvI0SSb-43Q2BY4J1NUr0DUo3LsvrYe2Ty6dphm6xLijypYlMuVxkp2YSacecAOIoWaPdt8Ow-e9F3sb58jLJADx4roSBrnEviIqG8/s1600/DSC02372+(Copy).JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
Many people are against the flexi format. Yes the sound quality is usually a bit inferior than it's wax brethren, but the idea is so cool that it outweighs that in my opinion. I love how the music is able to be reproduced on such at a material at all, that it is such a delight to be able to get another one. This time around it is no different, with the 1:30 track being on nice clear flexi plastic.<br />

As you can clearly see, the record comes in a black and white folded outer sleeve with a very young looking Dwid on the front. There is also Integrity skulls galore on the front, and the back of the sleeve. The inside has some early photos of the band too, you shouldn't need telling who that is above.<br />

Of course, Holy Terror has the track online for free listening. At just $1 to purchase, why would you not get your hands on this (if not physically of course). This (and the RIH record) were part of a special pack, so stay tuned for part III which will be arriving soon...</div>

This record is something I've been excited about for a long time now. After the compilation record, Hallways of the Always, was released the band has always mentioned releasing a part two. Packed with all the great tracks from RIH in the last few years, Ruined Empire is finally here on a glorious 12".</div>

As is the norm with Organized Crime Records, the packaging is superb, with another great cover artwork by Give Up. This opens up to a gatefold jacket with a very detailed image of a stone tunnel. Sitting just inside the right side of the jacket is an insert with the now infamous "Four-R" band logo. The reverse side has the lyrics to every track, which only just about all fit on the one page.<br />

This was actually released a few months ago, as part of OCR's contribution to record store day. A part of me thought I might miss out because of this, but luckily they decided to continue releasing this record to the public. The version released as part of RSD was limited (not sure to how many), and was on grey and black marbled vinyl. This time around, OCR decided to release a more limited verison on a grey and black smoke vinyl, which looks outstanding. Only 111 copies were produced all together, mine is #34.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course no record can really be that good if all the good points are in the packaging, it has to have some great tracks too. Luckily, this has it in bucket-loads. Granted there are no new tracks on here, but every single one is brilliant in my books. Containing the tracks from the split VVegas, Integrity, Moloch and Wayfarer, the No Peace/War compilation, The Studies in Emerald 7" and the ever elusive <span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit; line-height: 20px;">Úlfhéðinn 7", the record really packs a punch. In fact the tracks from </span><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 20px;">Úlfhéðinn</span><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 20px;"> were of special importance to me on this one, they were the only two I do not own, or have even heard before.<br />I did have high hopes for these, which were easily met. "A Vicious Joy", is a classic hardcore RIH track that is is perfectly encapsulated by the name. "</span><span style="line-height: 20px;">Nitsua Namso Eraps" is quite the opposite, a much more experimental track filled with noise samples and spoken words. It is actually quite the perfect bridge between the strikingly contrasted two sides of the record.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Much like they did with the first compilation album, a pre-release of a special edition set of all the records contained in the record was made. I was a tad too slow to get my hands on this, but maybe one day it will work it's way into my possession much like the first one did.</div>

This tape counts as the second release of the latest EP by Broken Cross, Secret Destruction. Originally released as a superb <a href="http://totaltotality.blogspot.com/2014/03/broken-cross-secret-destruction-7.html">7"</a>, the latest work from the one-man metal hardcore unit has been reborn as a cassette. Instead of a self-release, this has been released by the recently prolific <a href="http://xbezerkerrecordsx.bigcartel.com/product/broken-cross-secret-destruction-cassette">Bezerker records</a>. These guys have been putting out a lot of great cassettes lately, and I'm glad to see Broken Cross join the mix.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course the packaging has been toned down a bit from the 7", it is always harder to add quite the same flare. The same faded image of a city has been used for the artwork, and has also been somewhat extended to the tape itself. </div>

Perhaps what is most exciting about this release is an exclusive track, a cover of GISM's, "Death, Agonies and Screams". It was enough for me pick up this second version of the release and it was definitely worth it, the cover is awesome. Unfortunately, the track is not yet available online anywhere, so for all those dying to hear it you will have to head over to the Bezerker webstore and pick up your own copy.<br />
Broken Cross has put the rest of the EP online for free streaming, so that should at least tide you over.<br />

</div>
Not far off two years ago, I was approached by a member of Children of God about <a href="http://totaltotality.blogspot.com/2012/09/children-of-god-sun-gives-way-to-false.html">reviewing</a> a new song they had recently released. At the time, it was taking quite a different direction to the rest of the tracks the band had out and it really grabbed my attention. I think the plan was always to release this physically eventually, and it has finally surfaced on a pretty great 10" record.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjszqa4tW3T4hyphenhyphenECDDzSgZSqHAV23rW9w6RSgE_sLkfpLW2v0aEYdn6m3AlkqoTydIDwgqVPfDwVOTfobJFgnP-cLUJB5D6eRRjvDGJKpRqnmIVzvU0jmKX9N4HCSdx_kwKJzOVRyfOjKE/s1600/20140628_113045+(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjszqa4tW3T4hyphenhyphenECDDzSgZSqHAV23rW9w6RSgE_sLkfpLW2v0aEYdn6m3AlkqoTydIDwgqVPfDwVOTfobJFgnP-cLUJB5D6eRRjvDGJKpRqnmIVzvU0jmKX9N4HCSdx_kwKJzOVRyfOjKE/s1600/20140628_113045+(Copy).jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<a href="http://www.bisaufsmesser.com/store/records/10-/13424/children-of-god-the-sun-gives-way-to-false-truths-10">Vendetta records</a> handled the release, and actually "borrowed" the original review that I wrote. From what I could find, the only way to order through them directly was via the bisaufsmesser webstore, which wasn't able to ship to me. Not long after, the band had it's own copies for <a href="http://childrenofgod.bigcartel.com/product/the-sun-gives-way-to-false-truths-10-inch-ep">sale </a> which I nabbed very quickly. Two copies are in existence, a black and a white. According to discogs, the white was pressed in 100 copies, and the black in 400. In this case, I went with my gut and picked which of the two I thought more impressive.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEeetslmcgllfqEIPIMSgqGs-_z_IrdCrVSbViscCWksiEbnsPSUPQI8xHynTO1esQvnu1WKiMN7yHGXUAuqDfJI2Xr3hgB_B8LfK6A5FexQjB3Txnsj2hOpSdtxLklQPe7CLqvub9mHw/s1600/20140628_113057+(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEeetslmcgllfqEIPIMSgqGs-_z_IrdCrVSbViscCWksiEbnsPSUPQI8xHynTO1esQvnu1WKiMN7yHGXUAuqDfJI2Xr3hgB_B8LfK6A5FexQjB3Txnsj2hOpSdtxLklQPe7CLqvub9mHw/s1600/20140628_113057+(Copy).jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
The packaging is quite minimal, yet very effective. The record in housed inside a grey cardboard sleeve that opens outwards from the middle. On the back are the track lyrics, and behind where the record sits is a quote from Freidrich Nietzsche. What really amps it up though it the screenprint on the back of the record. The winged picture released as the artwork with the digital single is printed in gold, which looks fantastic against the black vinyl.<br />

Originally a track on the Seasons in the Size of Days CD, this rather bizarre Integrity track has recently been released on cassette, thanks to <a href="http://xbezerkerrecordsx.bigcartel.com/">Bezerker records</a>. Only a couple of Integrity recordings have made their way onto this format, so I was keen to pick it up when I heard about it's release. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This definitely hits the more experimental end of the Integrity spectrum, featuring a recording of Jim Jones on the day of their mass suicide accompanied by a range of small sound effects. It's really quite creepy to listen to, but then again that is probably half the point. </div>

The tape packaging is quite standard, but being from such a small label it is almost unfair to expect any more. The artwork folds out to include a picture of Jim Jones and a rather cartoony skeleton image.The actual tape is a standard black cassette with the classic early Integirty logo pasted on the top. Mine also came with a Bezerker records button which was a nice touch.<br />
Overall only 100 copies were produced, which is quite limited compared to some of the band's other releases.<br />

The tape did take a little while to arrive, so the guy form the label also included a separate tape from a band called Ripsnorter to make up for it. I've never heard of them before, but here they pose as "The Ripfits", playing 13 classic Misfits covers. They aren't all that bad either.<br />

When I first heard Limb, they had a short 3-track demo CD with UK's Witch Hunter records. The deep, heavy tracks had an almost blues tinge to them that just sounded great. Only two years later and they have put out their very own LP, thanks to New Heavy Sounds. In the middle of these two they had released another 7", also on NHS. This was also good, so didn't really hesitate to pick this up. It's not a bad album by any means, but something has been lost that they had in the original demo. The production is a lot more crisp this time around, which has actually taken away some of the appeal of the record. One of things I loved about the original demo was the thick sound the band was able to produce, and sadly this has been almost completely removed with the recording. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The LP comes in a nice gatefold cover with some incredibly detailed artwork on the front that certainly does look impressive. I am a fan of the gatefold jackets, but in this case I'm not exactly sure why it was necessary. Inside is a pretty standard photo of the band, not really too exciting.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The LP itself really stands out though. It is a cool electric green/black swirl. Overall 300 copies of this were produced, and from memory this was the only colour variation at the time. Inside the jacket is an insert with the cover artwork.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My 4th and final part of my RSD releases was this fabulous box set by Dead Kennedys. Yes it's a little different from the other releases I picked up, but these guys are such classic hardcore punk that I couldn't miss the opportunity. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This box set contains remastered versions of all their original 7"s, all the way from the original "California Uber Alles", through to "Halloween". A lot of their classic tracks are here, with many still be incredibly relevant today, about 30 years later than when they were originally released. Each also has a B-side, many of which I have not heard before. The B-side tracks aren't exactly their best work, but it is still cool to add a couple more DK tracks to the library.<br />A couple of the 7"s also had earlier recordings than what I had heard on their various LPs. Most noticeable were two of their classics: California Uber Alles and Holiday in Cambodia.<br />

Each record comes in a regular cardboard sleeve with the original artwork, which shows they never seemed to keep to a particular style of artwork. They all look pretty cool, but my definite favourite is the cover for Halloween.<br />
The box also comes along with a book of notes and interviews with the band.<br />

As part III of my RSD haul, I thought I'd write about this awesome little record, Bones, Dust, Nothing. Originally released a good few years back, this record contains the only tracks from short-lived band, Millenial Reign. It's a shame this band didn't stick around for longer, the four tracks they released on this EP were very promising and I've definitely gone back to listen to them time and time again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This was originally released by A389 as a pretty standard record. This year however it has received a revamp in the form of a leather cover, well faux-leather cover. I'd never bought a record in a leather sleeve before, and given the awesomeness of the record I decided I must have it. Like their other RSD releases this year, they were available online for a short while for us folk without the ability to buy them the traditional way.<br />

The leather sleeve looks just awesome, and inside is packed with the original packaging. The inside of the sleeve has the typical-of-A389-at-the-time vertical lyric sheet and the vinyl has the standard older centre label. This version is on purple vinyl, which has some definite other colours mixed in there. From what I can tell this was the common colour variant, but only 65 were produced with the special leather sleeve, mine being number 6.<br />

Many great records were released as part of record store day this year. Of course there is the split I mentioned above, but that wasn't the only thing worth getting my hands on this year. Second in my RSD haul is this split 12" from the ever mysterious Psywarfare and Full of Hell. </div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSADJR_49Hdn2zo0GOLhi7D8uswtCML0hGMBNnQgZPsIGZwVuJb_dA-D8FEIftrm-Mv9CpjdJviUl4zNSZjAv8KLjNe5mUkAA74YFd-J9J_AsdNDMPfMI321v3Qzo2ZnLijdZ0ngSif1Y/s1600/20140509_194142+(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSADJR_49Hdn2zo0GOLhi7D8uswtCML0hGMBNnQgZPsIGZwVuJb_dA-D8FEIftrm-Mv9CpjdJviUl4zNSZjAv8KLjNe5mUkAA74YFd-J9J_AsdNDMPfMI321v3Qzo2ZnLijdZ0ngSif1Y/s1600/20140509_194142+(Copy).jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
Upon hearing about the release of this split I was certainly intrigued as to how the two bands would work together. On the one hand we have the eclectic electronic noise of Psywarfare, and on the other we have trashing power of Full of Hell. If there is one thing to go by with this record, it is to not try and guess the record before you hear it.<br />
Gone are Psywarfare's harsh electronic noises and samples and instead we have a slow, repetitive track that was inspired by Hawaiian music. This inspiration does come through, even if in an immensely twisted way. Full of Hell have also taken a step away from their norm, and produced an experimental track much more like other Psywarfare recordings, full of noise, drones and samples terrorizing your ears.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk9vlUGKNLCZd4lDwCCtw3YzJtFRgt0WqWQUzvLPrPNwAB6rIZzDtL6aoBzmbcrVOAlMcTRZp74cSpPGErigfefHJR7BWt5tsdv-2yl4GVHerl67KDShvH6vxP4Mju6bUmcCtpOGCfv_U/s1600/20140509_194206+(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk9vlUGKNLCZd4lDwCCtw3YzJtFRgt0WqWQUzvLPrPNwAB6rIZzDtL6aoBzmbcrVOAlMcTRZp74cSpPGErigfefHJR7BWt5tsdv-2yl4GVHerl67KDShvH6vxP4Mju6bUmcCtpOGCfv_U/s1600/20140509_194206+(Copy).jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
Once again, A389 were responsible for this split release, which comes in three varieties. The first was a green and white mix, which was only available at participating RSD stores. My local wasn't selling anything like this, so I was lucky when A389 announced the online sale of a clear with camo splatter variant. This version looks brilliant, but there was another that looks equally impressive. For sale on the Holy Terror website was a blue/pink splatter version that just looks insane.<br />
A neat feature about these records are the tiny centre labels. They are about a third the size of the regular labels, and open up a lot of that clear and camo wax.<br />

The Hawaiian theme has also seeped out of the wax to influence the packaging of the record, well the Psywarfare side at least. The artwork is very coloured and looks like it has come right of a dark forest from a Pacific Island.<br />
The Full of Hell side is incredibly bleak in comparison, consisting of a single blade on a white background. It does perfectly suit the mood of the track though.<br />

For the first time in a while, the tracks aren't available on the label's bandcamp. The Psywarfare side is streaming via Holy Terror, so if you missed out on another great record you can at least experience some of what it has to offer.<br />

There are several bands that I personally think are big names in metallic hardcore of today. Of course that includes Integrity, but also bands like Gehenna, Rot in Hell etc. Over the last few years, several of these have been pairing up to release amazing split records. One record I have felt should exist but didn't was an Integrity / VVegas split, but this year they have finally teamed up. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWE7OEEqe8Srnu8wcesRN-cxZaj8gioTmsv6gQZgkE4J13CGyvoH0Xp1I4qzdE1ixyVK9gK9OBzGaLr_r_Dcpoc3PqCWK48JDonD7d-Dgw8rq7LESLRgfgnOapPce1bSJlhKUfb0wBp2s/s1600/20140501_180456+(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWE7OEEqe8Srnu8wcesRN-cxZaj8gioTmsv6gQZgkE4J13CGyvoH0Xp1I4qzdE1ixyVK9gK9OBzGaLr_r_Dcpoc3PqCWK48JDonD7d-Dgw8rq7LESLRgfgnOapPce1bSJlhKUfb0wBp2s/s1600/20140501_180456+(Copy).jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
This 7" features two tracks covering the music of Dudley Moore and Peter Cook. At first I thought this was rather peculiar, and was unsure how the Integ/VVegas spin on these tracks would work. It really does though, they sound just amazing. The inside of the cover mentions the tracks were actually recorded a few years ago now and it shows, at least for Integrity, it is definitely not the same Integrity that recorded Suicide Black Snake. It's quite amazing how much a band can progress in only a few short years.<br />

A389 handled the release of this record, and was part of their limited record store day releases. Nowhere close to me was actually selling this on the day, and finding an online merchant actually selling copies was rather tough. I did eventually find <a href="http://www.interpunk.com/">Interpunk </a>selling copies, a store I have not bought from before, but one which I was pleasantly surprised with.<br />

The record comes in a fold-out 7" jacket with some written words by VVegas' lead man, T. The artwork on this release is once again handled by Szymon Siech, and once again is amazing. This particular version of the release also ties in the best with the red and black colour scheme in the artwork, being pure red vinyl. I have also seen a bright green splatter version that are being sold by the bands, but I think this one looks that slightly bit better. The great artwork even continues onto the centre labels.<br />

While the rest of the packaging is great, by far the best part is the enormous poster included with it (apologies for the poor photo). At 24"x36" it is a real beast, and quite frankly looks terrifying. Of course mine will never see a wall, but it is still an awesome addition to have.<br />

If downloads are more your thing, A389 are currently selling the entire split for a price that you decide. I'm not sure how long this will last, so get in quick while you can.

The Way to Light and Horders have recently teamed up on a split cassette tape released on <a href="http://diesong.net/">Die Song</a>. Both belong to the ambient/noise genre spectrums, but are certainly quite different in terms of sound. While Horders tend to produce more abrasive sounding tracks, The Way to Light tends to create more atmospheric pieces. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZla77_vLYIKVxsENFQ8M9WXw3jjsKpA70bRBdPF05nA4Jqn3fiPN20HvP1jwu11Qumn93p-JVUOUunyTp4Vsd8wZQUphbVHR81N-tjn-_Gy_4BMQrn3ZZM951TXfdnyDaMFWPJTbzcqM/s1600/1545203_662303953811012_279914059_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZla77_vLYIKVxsENFQ8M9WXw3jjsKpA70bRBdPF05nA4Jqn3fiPN20HvP1jwu11Qumn93p-JVUOUunyTp4Vsd8wZQUphbVHR81N-tjn-_Gy_4BMQrn3ZZM951TXfdnyDaMFWPJTbzcqM/s1600/1545203_662303953811012_279914059_n.jpg" height="400" width="341" /></a></div>
Horders play five new tracks on this split, and they are really something quite different to their earlier work. For a noise/instrumental project that may seem like a hard thing to do, but they have certainly tried to push the limits and explore some new territories this time round. It is almost hard for me to explain exactly what is different, it really needs to be heard to be understood.<br />
The first track, "No Hope" follows an ominous distorted acoustic riff that really captures the name of the track, and is filled with the usual samples and abrasive reverb I've come to associate with Horders. "Desert Glass" starts in a completely different direction, with a minute of building distortion that builds into an enormous wall of sound that bursts through your ear drums. In a way it is horrible to listen to, but yet in another strange way I keep going back to listen to it over and over again. Once the wall is finally broken down there is another solemn riff surrounded by samples of machine guns and other unearthly noises. <br />
Where this side gets particularly interesting for me is the last track "Erase the Slate". While Horders has definitely had samples of spoken words in previous tracks, this is the first I am aware of to feature actual lyrics. Of course they are wickedly distorted, but they work on top of the acoustic guitar perfectly and without careful listening sound just like another layer of twisted noise samples.<br />
<br />
As I had thought, the TWTL is entirely different to the Horders side. All of the abrasiveness has been stripped back and replaced with intense drawn out drones. Everything about these tracks is very soft, yet somehow very dark. It makes me feel like I am hearing the sounds from a very long distance, as if I have travelled away from the source to a place inside my own mind.<br />
The first track, "Aghartha" starts with roughly three and a half minutes of drones and hints of an array of sounds that create such an immense atmosphere. A quiet acoustic riff then makes it's way through all the layers of sound and is eventually accompanied by a whisper of spoken vocals. "Worthless Crown" starts with a slow, heavy drum beat that is at the start a part of some distant noises which eventually fades into the abyss. A slow tune creeps it's way back into the air, and by the three minute mark starts some acoutisc guitar and vocals that would not be out of place on a Roses Never Fade record (no surprises there really).<br />
<br />
A small promotional video was also made for the release, and all of the tracks are now streaming online. TWTL even has it's first full-length album on the horizon, again thanks to Die Song.<br />

I had originally meant to post about this record just under a year ago. Even then it had been on my list for a while, and after some time I decided to actively look online to find myself a copy. Turns out there are lots of copies for sale around the place, ranging in price and authenticity. I did manage to find a copy that met my needs and placed my order. Unfortunately this copy never arrived, I'm not sure what happened to the trader but it seemed they suddenly received a lot of negative feedback regarding undelivered packages. These things happen sometimes, and I'll never learn what really happened there. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For a while I laid off purchasing another copy, until a few weeks ago when my interest peeked once again. This time I found a similarly good deal and it did actually arrive! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaYH_Iz19L9Cp-9IVkKwgsoLMPyND2MbAjTfLi49q2gATXAPpM9u2cgfa2SD8W_3uvbRAlh2qbMjjkoBWqTERl50WgRFEjCP3opcNrBaTCTBEeZzUtJh21FITnTWTX5u0IwUmx4KWkvBI/s1600/20140420_102641+(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaYH_Iz19L9Cp-9IVkKwgsoLMPyND2MbAjTfLi49q2gATXAPpM9u2cgfa2SD8W_3uvbRAlh2qbMjjkoBWqTERl50WgRFEjCP3opcNrBaTCTBEeZzUtJh21FITnTWTX5u0IwUmx4KWkvBI/s1600/20140420_102641+(Copy).jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
This album was released back in 1986 and is somewhat of a compilation from previous EPs and tracks from various other compilations. It contains 18 tracks of some of strangest and unusual hardcore tracks, that is utterly fantastic. One of the things I love about Septic Death is how they transition from medium paces to the absolute insane in an instant, and these tracks showcase that so well.<br />

Since their release in the mid 80s, Septic Death records have inspired a vast number of bootlegs, and this record is no exception. From what I have been able to gather, the original record was released in the US and UK in '86, and then in Japan in '87. A German label has since released an unofficial bootleg back in 2009 featuring both a red and a blue colour vinyl. I really wanted to try and get an original copy, and to the best of my knowledge I have been able to do that.<br />Mine is obviously an older copy, but it has been taken care of extremely well. Aside from the slightest of outer sleeve wear, the record may as well be brand new!<br />

</div>
Back in 2010, Rot in Hell released an amazing split 7" with another UK band, Wayfarer. I have already picked up a <a href="http://totaltotality.blogspot.com/2012/01/rot-in-hell-wayfarer-split-7.html">copy</a> of the more standard grey version, which I posted about a while ago. I knew several different quite interesting versions existed out there, but at the time that was all I could get my hands on. But then a few weeks ago I was browsing discogs and noticed one of the special versions up for sale. Before anyone else could grab it I put in my order, I didn't want it to get away!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ8Sx26_tIuRJVXtgKiU7vywAEUr0LcSShemy65EfflQRrtqmsiu-TqOgCX8EquCigiaBUhMdcCUTmwBntyHAHtA5mM2HtmuS1NuMVB56sZ2klUj_7IOJV02THiPbXym6YP8wllQND5lI/s1600/20140315_143638+(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ8Sx26_tIuRJVXtgKiU7vywAEUr0LcSShemy65EfflQRrtqmsiu-TqOgCX8EquCigiaBUhMdcCUTmwBntyHAHtA5mM2HtmuS1NuMVB56sZ2klUj_7IOJV02THiPbXym6YP8wllQND5lI/s1600/20140315_143638+(Copy).jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
This is still part of the grey pressing, but also comes with a special cover, limited to 25 copies. Overall 50 were made with special covers, and two different covers exist. One is entitle, "Northern Wolf", and this copy is entitled "Southern Dragon". These were sold exclusively at the release gig, and although the photo isn't doing it justice, it looks outstanding.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdFX54J9aQklDmeDKQ0kwJr8bsmSJeOzltknd5ug_S8IvOZwTOi0h9aBbMCA448m3Gh_JtN7tqVXPGTt6lPpT7iQrwOdKiQo3wPlao_sICLOEKnJdSXwV4qWCF0gBo8lLcVw2nKIEFDJ0/s1600/20140315_143653+(Copy).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdFX54J9aQklDmeDKQ0kwJr8bsmSJeOzltknd5ug_S8IvOZwTOi0h9aBbMCA448m3Gh_JtN7tqVXPGTt6lPpT7iQrwOdKiQo3wPlao_sICLOEKnJdSXwV4qWCF0gBo8lLcVw2nKIEFDJ0/s1600/20140315_143653+(Copy).jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
One of the other cool additions to this version of the record is a rune stone, which to be honest was part of the big draw for me to get this copy. I'm unsure if all the copies came with the same rune stone, but the rune on my stone appears to be kenaz, the rune of enlightenment (at least in Anglo Saxon). It's things like this that really make RIH releases stand out above all others.<br />

Apart from these two additions, the packaging is the same as the copy I already owned. It was totally worth picking up though, and the tracks from both bands are still absolutely killer.LiGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03568734488777465073noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3517631279265241005.post-88010552607091605062014-04-06T21:08:00.000+12:002014-04-06T21:08:03.459+12:00Organized Crime - Halloween Surprise MMXIII<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This release marks my third entry in the Organized Crime Records Halloween series. For those not in the know, this is a great concept the label does every year. A package becomes available for order on the website sometime around Halloween, and you are only supplied with the bare minimum of information about what you are going to receive. It is a bit of a gamble, but so far I have not been disappointed with any of the packages OCR have put out. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This time around the only information was the record would be "Integrity related", but this didn't even cross my mind.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is of course a re-release of the classic In Cold Blood 7", first released back in 1997. My past surprise packages have been much more HT related, so it was definitely quite a surprise to see this record when I opened my package, but overall it was still a great one to receive.<br />

The original four tracks have been pressed on translucent pink vinyl, that has a hint of red streaks running through it. It looks quite stunning, and is certainly not a colour you would associate with the heavy hardcore of In Cold Blood. One of the original centre labels (above) has been kept on the B-side. The vinyl comes inside a standard white dust jacket with an OCR stamp on the top right hand corner.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of the things you do know about these packages, is that you are going to receive at least some kind of shirt as well as a record. That is only because you have to specify the size upon order, but other than that it is a total mystery. This time around OCR have given us a great long-sleeve with the 7" artwork on the front. The back has the track listing, and the arms both say "In Cold Blood". </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Once again a great surprise package. I hope OCR continue this tradition in the coming years, it is certainly something I look forward to as we reach the end of October.LiGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03568734488777465073noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3517631279265241005.post-35483431033540256622014-03-30T20:17:00.001+13:002014-03-30T20:17:51.706+13:00Unit Togo - Demo Tape<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Unit Togo was the biological division of the Japanese army in World War II. Their activities included vivisection, food and water deprivation, germ warfare studies as well as burying people alive. Overall pretty horrific stuff, but it does also show the kind of no-nonsense that this new band is about. </div>

Consisting of members from quite an eclectic group of bands (Heksed, Martyr's Tongue and Malware), Unit Togo have recently released a fantastic demo comprising of three tracks that show off the band's diverse skill set. The demo starts out with "Nuclear Cleansing", a harsh electronic track filled with distant noise samples, drones and white noise. This then leads into the ripping track, "ABC Warfare". This is a blistering metal punk track filled with amazing riffs, solos and incredibly harsh vocals. This stops very abruptly to lead into "Rivers of Blood", a very ominous electronic track with the same twisted vocals.<br />

The tape release has been handled by <a href="http://xbezerkerrecordsx.bigcartel.com/">Bezerker records</a>, a label I am fairly new too but so far am impressed with. They also handled the release of the limited Integrity tape, which I will post about before too long. The tape comes with some killer artwork that pretty much epitomises the three tracks perfectly. I did also receive a copy of Relentless Aproach's Two Birds and a Stone, a great bonus when you have only ordered one item. The tape is limited to just 50 copies.<br />

I think the tape is still available, so do yourself a favour and get a copy before it is too late. If you really just want to hear the tracks, the band has also put them online for free download.<br />
